Who are we?
We are a large North London allotment society with over 260 members. We welcome members from our diverse community who enjoy growing things – flowers and vegetables of course, but even bees! It’s a good community of very friendly and helpful people from a hugely diverse ethnic background – so if you want to know more about unusual vegetables, and swap some fantastic recipes, then this is the place to come. Kids love it as well – there is always something to do and lots of wildlife to study (or chase…). We welcome everyone, especially families, and hold social events such as a summer BBQ and Christmas drinks. We are self-governing and run by a committee of volunteers who ensure that the sites are well maintained and well run. There’s lots more information and news on our web site so please click here if you’d like to read what else we do.
Where are we?
This large allotment association spans two adjacent sites in Friern Barnet at Crescent Road, London N11 3LA and Hatley Close, London N11 3LN. There are 225 plots. Each site has a small car park and an access road through the middle, to help with deliveries of large items like compost bags and so on.
How can you get involved?
We have vacant plots occasionally and run a waiting list when we are full – but the wait is usually not very long. If you want to put your name on the list, either fill in our online form on this page or come and visit us at the Trading Hut which is open on Sundays between 10 and 12. You could also call our Lettings Officer, Doug Rice, on 020 8361 4915 (if you get an answerphone, please leave a message).
The Trading Hut is staffed entirely by volunteers and new helpers are always welcome – it’s a great way to learn a lot about the various plants, plant care, and fertilisers etc, as well as getting to know all the other plotholders really quickly.
We stock a full range of seeds, compost, seed potatoes, onions, etc in season, plus chemicals, organic treatments, pots and gloves, all available at discounted prices. We can also lend you various tools to help you maintain your plot – even strimmers and wheelbarrows.
